Courses for Personal Property Appraisers
Learning Objectives: The Principles of Valuation (PoV) courses are designed for individuals who are interested in mastering the specialized theory and practice skills required to competently produce appraisals of personal property for specific purposes such as insurance, estate tax, damage claims, donation, sale, pre-nuptial planning, marriage dissolution and equitable distribution. Personal property is defined as tangible, movable property that is utilitarian, collectible or decorative or a combination of the three. These courses must be taken in sequential order.
PP/GJ201AC: Introduction to Personal Property Valuation
This course covers general valuation theory and principles that influence valuation; historical antecedents of modern appraisal practice; appraisal terminology; functions of appraisals and identification in the appraisal process; and factors affecting the valuation of process. Course level: Basic. This is a 27 hour course with a 3-hour exam. Course fee includes a student manual.

PP/GJ202AC: Personal Property Valuation Methodology-Research and Analysis
This course covers the relationship between valuation theory and market economics and statistics; matching appraisal methods to appraisal purposes and objectives; researching primary and secondary sources; uses of statistics in valuation; the work plan and its components; research design and organization; interpretation of catalog information and prices; advanced valuation theory and principles that influence valuation; appraisal terminology; functions of appraisal and identification in the appraisal process. Course level: Intermediate. This is a 27 hour course with a 3-hour exam. Course fee includes a student manual.
